“They are Precious Gifts of Heaven”: Jonathan Edwards’s Works in Brazil

Abstract

In this meeting that celebrates the global reception of Jonathan Edwards, considered “the greatest philosopher-theologian yet to grace the American scene”,[1]born in this country 316 years ago, I would like to summarize the reception of Edwards and his writings in Brazil. For the purpose of context, I believe it may be useful to share, in a nutshell, the history of Protestantism in Brazil, the various transformations it has experienced, and how Edwards’ writings fit into this story
